After the merger of the Department of Energy and the Department of Heat Engines in 2002, the new laboratory of the Department of Energy Engineering was named the György Jendrassik Thermal Engineering Laboratory on 13 May 2008, the 110th anniversary of the birth of György Jendrassik.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. György Gyarmathy, Professor Emeritus of ETH Zurich, who was the nephew of György Jendrassik.
